Religion is typically ran a certain way it is always done that way (step by step). Spiritual is when your lead by the Holy Ghost and it will be different every time. You just flow in the spirit, but with religion you are expected to do it a certain way (rules)
I don't have a problem, as some do, with calling Christianity a religion. A religion is described as a set of beliefs regarding belief in supernatural things, including God.
We, as Christians, believe biblically founded beliefs in God and Christ is the correct set of beliefs. Religion is described both positively (James 1:27) and negatively.
But the way "spirituality" is used in the world is so vague so as to be unclear and it fits any meaning a person wants to give it. It's probably better for a Christian to avoid applying it to himself around nonchristians.
