Why do you date before getting married, and why to you continue to spend time with your spouse after you are married? For these same reasons, you should study the word...all of it from Genesis to Revelations.

The bible is a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. When someone says something is not a sin, we can go to the bible to see what it says. When someone says something is a sin, we go to the bible to see what it says. Many false teachers have gone out into the world and we have to use the straight edge of the word of God to see what they are saying is true of false.

We are not to add anything to it, or take away anything from it. Where the bible is silent there is freedom. Where the bible speaks, we are to obey. Without the bible everyone would do what is right in their own eyes. We would call good evil and evil good. We are not to make our own laws and add them to Gods word.

We are not to obey Gods word as law, but out of a heart of love because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Legalistic obedience leads to pride and selfrighteousness. Those that Love the Lord will obey Him and it is not a grievance we bare.
