Should Christians be involved in politics?

If a Christian, who is not employed as a politician, is involved with political matters, such as speaking out against politicians whom they do not endorse or are personally against, is it the same as engaging in the affairs of this life?

2 Timothy 2:4 - 6

KJV - 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

I really appreciate the responses here, and agree that Christians should be in positions of power, just as it was in the days when the bible was being produced. Israelites were in positions of authority with God as their King for many years prior to selecting a king of their own. David was a man afer God's own heart and the King and his son after him.

The reason I ask this question is because I have been listening to a prominent Minister of God's word speak out against our President and he said that the world would have to answer for electing President Barak Obama. He went out of his way to not see the president reelected, which if his ministry calls for it I can see how he was doing what God led him to do. This is my take as a Christian who love the Lord and have a relationship with him, does anythng surprise God? Isn't God the author of tomorrow? If God didn't want this president reelected wouldn't he have fixed it so that he wasn't reelected? Also, I have heard other Christians disrespect the President who is the highest commander on earth. When are we engaging ourselves in worldly matters, such as written in 2 Tim 2:4-6

I really agree with you. I have had this same conversation with people before. God hears our prayers He will not ignore us. God knows things we do not know. Who is to say the other guy would have done better? He hears us and listens to our pleas and out of His grace answers our prayers. I may not agree with everything that is going on.We should speak life into our leaders instead of speaking death into a situation.

I think many Christians get confused with the idea that if God wants a head of state elected then they by default will be godly and make biblically based decisions. This is not backed up by the bible. For example, God claims to be the one who raised up the Assyrian Emperors, Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus, Darius etc. They were far from being godly or biblically based kings. But God used them as tools to further his purposes towards Israel and Judah. So is the case today. When Paul commanded the church to honour and respect the rulers and authorities of his day, Nero was emperor - far from being a godly man indeed! President Obama is there by God's permission, not necessarily to do good, but to fulfil His purposes for world history fulfilling its ultimate destiny. [Pro 21:1 ESV] 1 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.
