Can a Christian take a house loan?

Deuteronomy 28:12

ESV - 12 The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

I think that we as a Christian people would be better off borrowing and lending to each other rather than from banks or other institutions, because so much of the cost of a house is simply paying interest on a bank loan.

Such a lending/borrowing agreement would require trust on the part of the lender, faithful repayment on the part of the borrower, and a fair system of disciplinary action if either party did not adhere to the agreement.

We could have a better system than what the world offers us, but we don't.
