I don't find the word steadfast in my version of the Bible in Psalm 86, I do find it in Palm 78:

Steadfast means

1. Fixed or unchanging; steady.
2. Firmly loyal or constant; unswerving.

First and foremost God exercises His steadfastness in abiding by and keeping faith to the covenant He made with Abraham. That covenant is the foundation of all His dealing with us now which His son is the "seed" who will inherit and rule over all that was promised to Abraham and we with him in the coming new age.

God is steadfast - 1. Fixed or unchanging; steady.
2. Firmly loyal or constant; unswerving, toward us at all times. He at any given time knows how many hairs are on our head or not. His eyes are constantly upon those who are His who He has placed under the care of His beloved son Jesus. He knows that His son acts constantly on our behalf as our High Priest and Advocate, actively keeping us on the right path, always bringing us back to where we should be in him when we fall back or fail to keep his word that his God and Father gave him to give to us.

With that kind of steadfast love exercised toward us by our God and Father, the God and Father of our lord Jesus; how can we fail?.

We can only fail if we decide to walk away and turn our back on God and willfully decide to become anti-God in our actions. The penalty of willfully sinning against God is death and destruction in the lake of fire, which is the second death. Choose life in the anointed one Jesus.
