The consequence of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was told to them. The bible isn't a courtroom transcript. It doesnt tell us what day of the week it was when they were given the prohibition, or how long it took them to disobey after being told. We don't have every word spoken between God and them.

Eve told Satan they were instructed to not touch the fruit tree; when we read what God said to Adam, touching it isn't mentioned. Well it must have been said because Eve said it was part of the prohibition. She had not eaten the fruit yet, which was her first act of sin, so she was evidently telling it the way it was told to her.

It's been said that she added to what had been said; I don't know if some of us really think these things through. She was sinless until she ate of the tree; if she fibbed before she ate, then technically she had already sinned. We know that isn't true. We need to think critically about these things.

Adam and Eve were told they'd die... Satan told them they would not die... to insinuate that they were wrongly sentenced to death because they "had no knowledge of good and evil" is to purport that God isn't just, that they were railroaded. One person on this site even insinuated that God was partly to blame for letting a serpent run free in the garden.

I don't think the people who imply that it's all God's fault is trying to make excuses for Adam and Eve. I think they're trying to invalidate their own guilt and brokenness.
