The word "gin" in Job 18:9 and Isaiah 8:14 is defined as a 

I. bird trap, trap, snare
A. bird trap (literal)
B. of calamities, plots, source or agent of calamity (fig.)
II. plate (of metal).
In Amos 3:5 it simply means a bait, lure, snare.
