At the Tower of Babel, RELIGION was invented. In religion, man tries to work out something to reach God; but in Christianity, God loves man, and comes down to save man. In religion, fake things are substituted for the real. Genesis 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. God uses 'lively stones' to build His spiritual house; but these men substituted brick for stone, and also substituted slime for mortar. Slime and mortar look alike, but it is easier to get slime than mortar; just like it is easier to make bricks and build with them. Genesis 11:6-7 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. Because the people were IN ONE ACCORD, they would have succeeded, even though what they were doing was wrong before God. There is a great lesson here to learn about unity. In the early church, where the believers were in one accord, they live in a miraculous realm that we don't see again today due to the divisions in our midst. To stop them from completing this religion which would have made the whole human race go astray completely, God confused their language so that they could no longer understand each other and come to an agreement. The work stopped there... The church is weak today, and cannot achieve much in the world because of divisions. Jesus prayed: John 17:20-23 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. The world does not believe anymore because we are not ONE. Ephesians 4:3-6 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. May God help the church to return to that place!
