Exodus 32:34; here the operative word in this sentence is "mine". This means the angel is not just an ordinary angel, for God's name is written in Him. To fully understand this let us look at Ex.23:20-23. (20) "Behold I send mine angel before thee, to keep thee in the way and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. (21) Beware if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions for my name is in him. (22) But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries.. (23) For mine angel shall go before thee. Here, God promised to send 'mine angel' (v.23) for Israel's protection and success. This is no ordinary angel for God's name is in Him and He can pardon your transgressions, ("Who can forgive sins, but God alone?" --Luke 5:21) This is the Angel of the covenant (Is 63:9), the pre-incarnate Jesus, Himself who now attends His law.Obedience was not at that time to the law, but to the Angel. Obedience would result in blessings; therefore, "obey his voice, provoke him not.
