Why did Moses command the Levites to kill the Israelites?

He commanded them to do so because the Israelites were in rebellion against God. We are commanded to consider our old self as dead for the same reason. The old self was and is anti-God. We need to continue to be renewed in our minds led by the spirit of Jesus indwelling us as new creations in him who is the beginning of God's new creation!
