I understand the leaves of the fig tree are very large. That is probably what attracted them. What I couldn't find an answer for is how much the leaves will shrink if removed from the vine but it must shrink some because it will stop receiving water at that stage. I was once preparing for a lesson on the leaf used as a covering for sin but got the fig leaf confused with the grape leaf and found out their leaves shrink approximately 1/4 of their size. In any case, the leaf would probably shrink and change in feel from lack of water. Bottom line, it wasn't a perfect covering. Life is in the blood. Now we understand all about DNA...just think what the spit from Jesus' mouth and the dust of the ground did to the eyes of the man who was born blind. It truly showed the glory of God to all when the man received not only sight but brand new eyes. Amen?
In considering the original sin and the temptation of an unnamed fruit, it very well could have been the fig, in an over-ripened state. The fruit may have reached fermentation, and consumption led to sinful behavior and a need for a fig leaf to hide themselves.
