Why were 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats sacrificed at the dedication of the temple?

The numbers of animals sacrificed in that just one instance, even if possibly over a couple weeks, is staggering.
Why would God require that many animals to be killed? How was this done?

1 Kings 8:63

I wonder if the 144,000 animal sacrifices had something to do with the 144,000 Israelis who are 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel who are sealed as written in the Revelation of John while he was in exile the Island of Patmos? It is in Revelation 7 in the last book of the New Testament in Holy Bible.
