So, I clicked on this link because I am doing research. My thought on who the star of Revelation 9:1 could be is.......(drum roll)....... the apostle Peter.
First of all there is an angel and a star, two distinct persons, mentioned in this verse. This star is the same word (aster) that is used for the 7 stars in Jesus' right hand in Revelation 1:16,20, which many commentators believe are messengers or pastors of the 7 churches.
This star (aster) of Revelation 9:1 is a person, based on "HIS" ability to take a key and unlock the bottomless pit (loosing on earth what has been loosed in heaven). Asteroids can't do that unless they crash and cause an opening - but the word "fallen" here means to fly and land on gently, not crash.
The person speaking to the angel of Philidelphia (where another key is spoken of) is "He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens." Jesus is the one who has the key of David (Isaiah 22:22). Jesus is the one who has the "keys of Hades and of Death (Rev.1:19)."
And who did Jesus promise the keys of the kingdom to? Matthew 16 says Peter, and only Peter. And where was Jesus when He promised them to Peter? Cesarea Philippi - at the grotto of Pan (the abyss - the bottomless pit - the gate of Hades) - the grotto of Pan is the little rock at the foot of Mount Hermon, the big rock, (just like Peter was the little rock out of a big rock, where Jesus said He would build His church - and who is His church, well, you and I, of course (1 Peter 2:5).
Mount Hermon was considered the "mountain of the gods," where the fallen angels made a pact with each other to corporately sin against God by mating with human women, and therefore creating a super-race of beings who would take dominion of the earth (Gen. 6, Book of Enoch, 2 Peter 2:4-5, Jude 6, stone stele found at summit of Mt Hermon by Sir Charles Warren 1869). Jesus put them on notice by transfiguring on their mountain. Peter was shown by God that Jesus was the Messiah at the grotto of Pan.
In Luke 11:52 Jesus rebukes the lawyers, the Pharisees and Scribes, for taking away the key of knowledge and hindering those who wished to enter in. John 8:44 says that these supposedly religious people (wolves in sheep's clothing) actually belonged to their father, the devil, doing the same things the fallen angels did by corrupting mens hearts and turning them into twice the sons-of-hell that they are (Matt.23:15).
There is a LOT more to the story that I'd love to discuss, but I'll stop here. I'd love if anyone has more information, or thoughts on this.
