How is God like "a hiding place" (Psalm 32:7)

7 You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

The reference to God as a "hiding place" refers to His ability to shield or protect His followers (just as if they would be hidden or invisible) from the scope or extent of danger or calamity that was seeking to harm them (as with human enemies), or that might otherwise befall them (as with misfortune in general).

A lovely expression - why would we need a "Hiding Place“? The following, in my opinion, after looking through this thought, is as follows.

We know by the scripture this is one of David’s - vrs 7: You are a hiding place for me; You will safeguard me from distress. Because he needed a hiding place from King Saul and those who were trying to kill him.

And we know that God did protect him; he was truly a hiding place for David. But what can we learn from this verse?

As we have just mentioned, in prayer to Jehovah, David stated: “You are a hiding place for me; you will safeguard me from distress. You will surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance...." The one trusting in Jehovah is surrounded by His loyal love.” (Ps. 32:7, 10) Just as the walls surrounding an ancient city protected its citizens, so Jehovah’s acts of loyal love surround us, providing spiritual protection from dangers that could test our integrity. Further, Jehovah’s loyal love moves Him to draw us to Him.—Jer. 31:3 - 3From far away Jehovah appeared to me and said: “I have loved you with an everlasting love. That is why I have drawn you to me with loyal love.

The Bible describes God as "a hiding place" in Psalm 32:7 to illustrate that he offers refuge, protection, and security to those who turn to him in confession and trust. This metaphor implies a relationship of safety and intimacy, where one can find peace amid trouble and distress.

The psalm shows that access to this divine hiding place is a direct result of a relationship with God marked by honesty and trust.

In the Bible, God made this promise: “I shall make you have insight and instruct you in the way you should go. I will give advice with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8) Note that God offers not only advice but also insight, which is the ability to see into or below the surface of a situation. Having insight to discern what goals are truly beneficial can protect us from wasting our life on worthless pursuits.

God is described as a hiding place because He offers protection from trouble, provides spiritual refuge, and surrounds the believer with songs of deliverance, creating a secret and personal shelter of fellowship, safety, and joy in His presence. This refuge is a spiritual reality, offering safety from spiritual harm and the turmoil of the world, rather than just physical comfort.

So we need to be like David and let God be our hiding place from… enemies who would want to harm us and kill us.
