When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the fruit, then realized their nakedness and felt shame, it was God who provided them with animal skins with which to cover themselves. I do not believe they shed the blood of the animal whose skins were provided. God did that for them. However, they surely realized that an animal was made to die so that their nakedness and shame could be covered. Each time they did so, they must certainly have remembered the first time they knew a living thing had to die so that they could live. When Jesus instituted this service hours before he became the ultimate sacrifice for us, a commandment which was to be continued until his return, I believe he knew we needed a continual reminder that "It should have been me."
