Michael's answer is totally accurate. The implications to daily living for any disciple is the next step. So how can we win this war in all the battles we face in this world? 1. The War was won by Jesus on the Cross (Col 2:15) 2. It is up to each disicple to allow the Holy Spirit to work out the victory achieved in in our own life. 3. The warfare is directed at our body which houses the mind (2 Cor 10:4-6). The mind is the software, the body is the hardware to use computer language. 4. The war takes place on earth, where we are. Demons want to live within our temple, the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 3:16-17). 5. Satan wants above all to take control of the temple and own it (1 Cor: 6:19-20). The example of Mark 5 is instructive - Satan cannot totally take over, especially when Jesus is around. 6. We are given spiritual weapons which protect the body and mind and a few offensive weapons (Eph 6: 10- 20). 7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2) is the major way ALHYM has provided for each of us to resist Satan, the Devil. JESUS power (dunamis - like dynamite 1 Cor 2:4) and authority (exousis- Mt 28:18) summarised in Mark 16: 14-20. Victory is provided by continually being filled in and by the Holy Spirit (Ep 5:18 - the Greek tense in present indicative - a continuous on-going action). 8. Total continuing submission to our resurrected and glorified Saviour is the WAY to achieve victory. We must be totally focussed on JESUS - by continually humbling ourselves, confessing/repenting of our sins to be washed clean by the blood of the LAMB of ALHYM (to JESUS 1 Jo 1:7-9) 9. Hence Baptism, total immersion, in the Spirit is the answer to be in the position where we can be led by the Spirit (Ro 8:1,14; Gal 5:25). 10. We must " Therefore humble yourselves (myself) under the mighty hand of ALHYM (Theon) that He may exalt you (me) in due time. Casting all your (my) care upon him for He cares for you (me)" (1 Pe 5:6). The word humble is in the aorist passive imperative tense- which means that I have to be like Jesus who humbled Himself to ABBA's will (Phil 21-11), be passive to allow ALHYM do the protecting, and the "aoroist" means that it begins in a point in time (so let us do it now) and "Imperative" meas it is a command to be implemented immediately. If the Almighty ALHYM, our Father, Daddy speaks, we must obey! No questions asked, no arguing. 11. And finally none of us is perfect, but we are being perfected, sanctifed, a process of refining by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit given to us by DADDY. So let us know we belong to His household (oikos Eph 2:19-21; Heb 3:6) as His adopted children, "teknon" (Ro 8:15) and mature into His sons and daughters "huios" (Gal 4:6) inheriting His promises as if we are all His direct children in our adoption. Let us teach theses truths to our children so that we too will become like our HEAVENLY DADDY, the Father of all fathers, our role model. We are all much loved (agape) sons and daughters (2 Cor 6:17), protected, resting in ABBA's arms, saved by His amazing grace, not by works (Eph 2:8). Lawrence NZ
