Jesus repeatedly commanded His disciples to beware of the leaven. The growing corruption of the Pharisees and Herod Antipas was spreading throughout Israel.

The corruption in view is hypocrisy. The practice is senseless because eventually all deeds - both good and evil - will be exposed.

Whatever spoken in the dark will be heard in the light. Whatever spoken in an ear in an inner room will be proclaimed on the housetop.

All secrets will be revealed by God. See Romans 2:15,16, and 1 Corinthians 4:5.
