Dear Anonymous, living in Christ means to live in union with him. You can read John chapter 15 for clarity.

We have received Jesus as our Lord, and because he is now our master, we are to follow him in humble submission and obey all that he commands.

We walk with him because of our union with him.

Wherever we see the words "in him", these words speak of our union with Christ.

We have become one with Jesus and God the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have been baptized into Christ by his death and resurrection. You can read Romans chapter 6 for clarity.

What does "living in Christ" (Colossians 2:6) involve? See Colossians 1:10-12.

Colossians 2:6 ESV: "As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, and established in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving."

Colossians 1:10-12 ESV: "To walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, unto all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks unto the Father, who made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light."

Living in Christ means aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with the teachings and example of Jesus. It involves a transformative journey of faith in which you die to self-centeredness, cultivate virtues such as love and compassion, and rely on His grace rather than your own strength.

Abiding in Him: Remaining connected to Christ (like a branch to a vine) through daily practices such as prayer, scripture reading, and seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance.

A Life of Service: Embodying a servant's heart and living "for others," mirroring the compassion and love Jesus showed to humanity.

Bearing Fruit: Cultivating the qualities of the Spirit—such as love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control—in all areas of your life, including your relationships and workplace.

Surrender and Obedience: Trusting God's loving purpose for your life even in difficult circumstances, and following His commands out of love.

Colossians 2:6-7 encourages believers to live out their faith exactly how they began it: by relying entirely on God's grace. The passage challenges us to stay firmly grounded in Christ, build our lives on His foundation, and let our daily lives continually "overflow" with thankfulness.

Paul reminds the church that just as they received Jesus as Lord by grace through faith, they must continue to walk in the same dependence. The Christian life is meant to be a steady, daily walk with Christ, rather than just an initial conversion experience.

We are called to sink our spiritual roots deep into Him and construct our lives on His truth. Being "established" means our faith should be strong and unshakeable, no matter what external challenges or doubts arise.

Paul writes: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God." (Col. 3:16) What does this mean? "The word of Christ," or the message from Christ, the whole deposit of Christian teaching, should become a part of us. (The Bible in Living English; Good News Bible; Weymouth, margin) It should be as if the entire body of teaching given by Christ has taken up residence within us. For that to be the case, we must be fully absorbed with the message of Christian truth, meditating upon it. When the "word of Christ" is actually a part of us in all its fullness and richness, it will serve as a guide, helping us make our way successfully. That word will then move us to act wisely.

What does "living in Christ" (Colossians 2:6) involve? See Colossians 1:10-12.

Colossians 2:6 "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,"

"Living in Christ" is also called "walking in Christ" as you can see from this other Bible translation of this verse. -- Colossians 2:6
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:”

King James Version (KJV)

Based on Colossians 2:6, “walking in Christ” means living out the reality that you have received Jesus Christ as Lord, and this walk is described in Colossians 1:10-12 as a lifestyle of bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with God’s power for endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father. The song “O To Be Like Jesus” (based on Colossians 2:6-7) reflects and applies these truths, showing that walking in Christ involves being firmly rooted in Him, strengthened in faith, growing in truth, overflowing with thanks, enduring to the end, never going astray, and continually following and obeying Jesus as a heartfelt aspiration rather than a mere duty.

Here are the lyrics:

Since we have received
Jesus Christ as Lord
We must walk in Him
We must be conformed
We are firmly rooted
Strengthened in our faith
Growing in the truth we
Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus
To always walk in Him
O to be like Jesus
Enduring to the end

Since we have received
Jesus Christ as Lord
We will walk in Him
We will be conformed
We are firmly rooted
Strengthened in our faith
Growing in the truth we
Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus
To always walk in Him
O to be like Jesus
Enduring to the end

O to be like Jesus
To never go astray
O to be like Jesus
To follow and obey

–"O To Be Like Jesus (2:6-7)" by Our Pilgrim Songs (from the album Colossians: Walk in Christ, based on Colossians 2:6-7).

Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

One having the humbleness to have the desire for the knowledge of God, you will be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and shall be given the spiritual understanding to walk worthy to be fruitful. One then who has humbleness will be led by spiritual understanding to walk worthy with our Lord Jesus, who then shall be led to be buried with Him, in baptism of repentance, and you shall be raised with Him through faith by God the Father. (Col 1:9-10/2:12) As you have been raised, your spirit shall then be a lamp of the Lord, who shall then search all the inward part of thy belly. (Pro 20:27) As your spirit is the lamp of the Lord, be of a humble spirit with the lowly, “Then being one to divide spoil with the proud!” (Pro 16:19) One who then has the fellowship with the Father and the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, needs to walk in the light, as He is in the light. As you walk in the light as He is in the Light, our Lord Jesus, we then have fellowship with one another, and the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ shall then cleanse us from all sins. (1 John 1:7)

One living in Christ our Lord Jesus, the light of the world, he that followeth Him shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life in them. (Joh 8:12) One then being raised with our Lord Jesus, through faith by God the Father, one then needs to seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. For then set your affection on things from above, and not on things on the earth, for you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Then, when our Lord Jesus shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory, that is your rapture. (Col 3:1-3/1 Thes 4:16) The light of life given to one, let not your heart be troubled, for in His Father's House are many dwellings, for He has prepared a place for you, for he shall then come at the time of rapture. He shall come again to receive us unto Himself; that’s where He is, for there, we may be also with Him. For whither He went and the way He went up in the clouds, we know that we shall be led. For thus He being in the Father, and the Father in Him, and the Words that He speaketh unto us, it’s the Father that dwelleth in Him shall do the works. (Joh 14:2-4,6-10)

Today, as you walk worthy of the Lord, knowing that you were sometimes alienated by the enemies in your mind, by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled you. (Col 1:21) The reconciliation given to one, by grace of God that bringeth salvation, shall then appear to all men, the Holy Ghost (Rom 5:5), which is given unto us. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present time of the world. (Tit 2:11-12) For the Love of God our Saviour, shall then appear, not by your works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to His mercy He save us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. (Tit 3:5) Lord Jesus is the light of the world, he that followeth Him, shall then not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life in them. (Joh 8:12) One then having the light of life in them, be aware not to be in a temple with idols, you are the temple of the living God, who dwells in you, walk in you, that is thy God, and you being led by Him to be His people. (2 Cor 6:16)

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

It is utterly impossible to be conformed to Christ without the Holy Spirit. Many individuals have believed that seeking the Father’s righteousness through their Christian actions is sufficient. They participate in congregations, share their faith with others, and perform numerous commendable deeds in the name of the Lord. However, let’s be honest, this is not the path to being conformed to the image of Christ. True conformity involves a daily walking in the fruits of the Holy Spirit, making his yoke easy and his burden light. Even if you believe you are doing God’s will, you will be rejected by the Lord. As it is written, many will stand before the Lord, declaring all their actions in his name, only to hear the words, "Depart from me, I never knew you."

It is only through the Lord’s placement of his Holy Spirit within you that you have received righteousness. The Holy Spirit brings forth his fruits, which are the very fruits that conform you to the image of God. Christ spoke to his disciples, stating that the peace he gives is not of the world but the peace that is given as one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Another fruit is God’s love, which is not the love of this world but the love that resides in your heart, placed there by God. Once you have received these fruits, you will not only perceive people as God does but will also love as he loves, for he has placed his love within your heart.
