We should teach and train our children. Proverbs 22:6 (NET) – Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Parents have a responsibility to guide their children in God's truth from an early age. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NET) – These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind, and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up. A good Bible memory plan helps immensely here; try Scripture Memory Fellowship's "Verse Locker." It is great! Parents should consistently teach their children God's ways in daily life. Proverbs 13:22 (NET) – A good person leaves an inheritance for his grandchildren, but the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous. This verse speaks about the value of wise stewardship and long-term planning. It suggests that a righteous person not only provides for their children but also ensures blessings for future generations. In contrast, the wealth accumulated by those who live wickedly will ultimately benefit the righteous instead. Also there is a verse in the New Testament which Nave's Topical Bible lists under parenting: Ephesians 6:4 (NET) – "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." -- Parents should correct their children in a way that leads to growth, not frustration. Another New Testament verse that Nave's lists is Colossians 3:21 (NET) – "Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become disheartened." -- Parents should encourage their children and not crush their spirits. My own two girls often reminded me of this one as they were growing up. We as parents just need to show Love and Care. Nave reminds us of another Old Testament verse that deals with love and care: Psalm 103:13 (NET) – "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers." -- Parenting should reflect God’s love, grace, and patience.
