The Holy Bible states in Prov. 20:6: Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? The first thing every woman must look for in a husband in a husband is faithfulness, the husband must posses the features of trustworthiness. Does he speak the truth? Is he loyal to his promises? Is the man God fearing? This is what the Bible speaks about a husband. Another feature can be found in Eph 5:31: For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. The husband must show the fruit of loving his wife unconditionally. If the man cannot love the wife or the woman in her weakness, the man is not qualified to be a husband; but note that she must also respect the husband, as well.
In answer to the question, “What should I be looking for in a Christian husband?” I will give my answer for my daughter, a pastor’s daughter, what I think she should be looking for as the ideal husband for her: He should have self-control (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8). He should be hospitable (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8). Personally, I’d love to see her marry someone who is able to teach (1 Tim. 3:2; 5:17; Titus 1:9) and who is teachable himself (not proud). He should NOT be violent but gentle (1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:7), not quick-tempered (Titus 1:7). He shouldn’t be quick to quarrel but patient with her and with others. He should NOT love money (1 Tim. 3:3) but be generous and have a heart for others in need. I’d like him not to be so new in the faith that he wavers in his faith (1 Ti. 3:6). He should have what my wife looked for in me before we were married, so she asked others about me: did I have a good reputation with them? (1 Ti. 3:7). He shouldn’t be overbearing (Titus 1:7). He should be a lover of what is good (Titus 1:8) and be upright, holy (Titus 1:8). NIVSB I realize that there are the qualifications of an elder and that yes, I’d love to see her marry a pastor or one who is just entering the ministry of some sort.
