Are taking oaths in court and vows in marriage a violation of Jesus' command in Matthew 5:33-37?

Matthew 5:33 - 37

NIV - 33 "Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.' 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne.

I believe you are correct.

However, you'd be hard pressed to find support for that.

Jesus told us not to vow, take oaths, or make promises. Only let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no'. Anything else is from the evil one.

What's interesting is to study where the typical wedding vows come from. I did a study on that once to understand the biblical legitimacy of wedding vows, and I couldn't find a single reference.
