God put the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden for several reasons of which only three I will address. 1. It was vegetation and that is where it belonged with the other edible things he created. 2. It wasn't needed in heaven where God resided because he is Omniscient 3. The Lord wanted to know if Adam; seeing he was created (made) in his image and likeness, could control his free will and restrain that great spirit of temptation and flat out obey God’s every command.

"The (tree of the) knowledge of good and evil."

There's only one way to truly understand good; it is to truly understand evil. If you want to know what it is to experience lLove, you have to have spent time in the ring with Hate. You won't know God until you learn who His adversary is.

For every Cain there is an Abel. "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated."
The people chose Saul to be their king. Shortly thereafter God had Samuel anoint David to be their king. You won't know how self-centered Saul was until you learn how faithful to God David was.

There is the law of God and there is the grace of God. You won't know how rigid the law of God is until you know how enduring the grace of God is.

There is no enjoyment of the Garden of Eden without the Sinai wilderness wandering.

I realize that there's a large contingency of people who call themselves believers, who say they don't understand why God put a forbidden fruit tree in a perfect place. It looks like a setup. They feel that God tempted Adam and Eve to disobey Him.

He didn't. He gave them an opportunity to know both good and evil. He told them the truth. They wanted so badly to know good and evil that they were willing to die. He said they would die if they ate of the tree, but they would KNOW good (life) and they would know evil (death). They chose to know. Now we know!

All things work together for good to those who love God and are used for His purpose (Rom 8:28).

IT'S ALL GOOD!!
