Reading the first 2 chapters of Genesis, it’s obvious God created the universe plus life on Earth in 6 x 24 hour days. Adding up the generational ages in the first 11 chapters of Genesis, one can calculate that the earth and all its biological contents have been around for about 6 thousand years. The world and academia have informed us that our earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, and the vast majority of the earth has been brainwashed to believe this secular view. However, using the tools of science, the biblical view is the only true explanation. The evidence is as follows.

1. Formation of animal kinds (going from microbes to mice to monkeys to man) according to secularists involves DNA mutations plus natural selection. DNA mutations however never creates new information but degrades DNA.
2. Humans have been on earth, secularists claim, about 150 thousand years. Knowing the accumulation of DNA mutations per generation we should all be extinct by now. Geneticists know that, but don’t show any opposition; they don’t want to lose their jobs. Adam and Eve leaving Eden were mutation-free, hence 900-year lifespans and close relative intermarriage.
3. There are no intermediate life forms in the sedimentary rock strata, hence no evidence of macroevolution (see point 1).
4. Rock layer formations and fossils seen worldwide are evidence of a worldwide flood. Rocks cannot be dated by radioactivity.

I could go on and on but, in short, the evidence of science confirms that the biblical account of creation is true. If you say it’s a side issue and unimportant, then one can conclude the rest of the Bible is questionable. In short, the biblical account of creation is critically foundational to understanding and belief in the rest of the Bible.
