Genesis 1:1 - 31

ESV - 1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

I would say that, since (as noted in Genesis 1:26) God said, "Let Us make man in Our image" (which applied to none of the other aspects of the original unfallen creation), God intended creation to provide for all creatures (including man), as well as to facilitate a unique eternal fellowship between humans and Himself through the human understanding and appreciation of His creative work (of which none of the other created lower forms of life were capable), and also to accordingly inspire grateful, willing obedience in humanity in response to the blessings that God had provided.
