What exactly are these leadership qualities specified here (Titus 1:7-8)?

7 " ... be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined."

Can you give me a word study here?

Titus 1:5 - 16

NLT - 5 I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you. 6 An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.

I would say that the positive qualities enumerated in the cited passage would be prerequisites for a leader in the church because, to be effective, such a leader must be capable both of bringing (and keeping) people together as a group, and also serving as an example for them to follow, in order to maximize the whole group's effectiveness in acting as a body, rather than individually.

By contrast, the negative characteristics or attributes cited in the passage would all be counterproductive to that objective, from the standpoint of relationships between individuals; the relationship between the leader and the group as a whole; and the group's consequent effectiveness when acting as a body.

I found a very effective breakdown of each of the qualities under the Study Bible exposition of them at the biblehub website (https://biblehub.com/titus/1-7.htm).

Leadership qualities: Psalm 31:3--know your topic inside out!

Psalm 61:2, speak assuredly. Isaiah 11:6, a leader brings harmony to the group. There is a common goal. The leader, ((Isaiah 48:17) teaches what is beneficial and does not lead astray. A leader is always approachable, Luke 11:4. A leader knows the goal.

Paul is instructing Titus about his position in the local church. He must be truthful and careful of his actions and his words, always teaching absolute truth. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

I would suggest Romans 1:16 for a word study. "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

(I would suggest that really is the whole of the Bible.)

Salvation = the inclusive work of all of the redemptive acts: deliverance, safety, preservation, healing, soundness, justification, redemption, grace, propitiation, (study the tabernacle in the wilderness), imputation, forgiveness, sanctification, and glorification.

Believers have been saved, are safe, and are yet being conformed.

Notice, three parts... we are in His image.
