The writer of Hebrews is telling them about the unchangeable Priesthood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek, so we have a Great High Priest who lives forever! Jesus is seated on the right hand of God, and lives to make intercession on our behalf as children of God. He died once and for all, and has been raised from the dead, and is able to save to the uttermost all who come to him by faith.

Christ is fully God and fully human. Hebrews 2 18: "For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted." Hebrews 4:15: "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." Luke 22:28: Speaking to the disciples, Jesus said (Aren't we the disciples today? I think so, we look to the Rock for truth!): "But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials." The disciples were with Christ during His trials, and they did not abandon Him. Believers, those who have faith, are trusting the Lord today. As we refuse to leave Him. He will never leave us! As David declares in Psalm 101:6, David made a covenant with God, "My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me." He was saying that when the believer maintains focus on God, we can rest assured. In 2 Peter 1 we read about the precious promises for those who believe! We will be fruitful and cleansed. We are established in truth! Peter was facing his death! He reminds us that the disciples (believers) are not chasing fables! The Lord is not slack! He is long suffering. Remain steadfast!
