It's really not a matter of whether God "expects" us to have children, since He is sovereign and omniscient and knows who will and who won't have children. The question is really one of whether or ...

I believe God gives us his answer in Exodus 20:5-6 “...I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” God desires that godly people (those who love him and obey his commandments) will have godly offspring, whom God will bless for a thousand generations. God wants planet earth to be filled with godly people for whom God’s blessings will be multiplied a thousand times. Contrary to this, for ungodly people (those who hate God), he doesn’t want them to have any children. Why, because the children will suffer for the sins of the parents to the third or fourth generation. God does not want the proliferation of evil that comes about when wicked and evil parents teach and show their children how to live wicked and evil lives. We see this often in generational sins like drug addictions and spouse/child abuse. We see this pattern played out in the history of the kings of Israel and Judah. The many wicked kings of Israel kept producing wicked children who followed in their parents footsteps. The many godly kings of Judah produced many godly children. There is no guarantee that godly parents will produce godly children but the likelihood is high. Also, God has certainly demonstrated how he can use wicked people to accomplish his divine purposes and even transform wicked rulers into godly rulers (ie king Nebechudnezzer of Babylon, king Manasseh of Judah). Since the coming of Jesus and his death on the cross, the power of sin (evil and wickedness) has been broken for everyone who believes. The indwelling Holy Spirit now provides the wisdom and power to live a godly life. Now God wants more godly offspring to tell a lost and dying world the good news about Jesus. How many more children does God want to create that will impact the world like Billy Graham did through his life and ministry. Every godly child is a witness for Jesus and a light in this dark world.
