Gen. 1:28: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Genesis 1:28
ESV - 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.

Great question, Eric! I believe the word, "replenish," has a specific meaning in Genesis 1:28. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it means, ": to fill with persons or animals … be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth — Genesis 1:28 (Authorized Version)" Most Bible translations other than the KJV have "fill the earth." It does not mean "fill the earth again." Why not? Because this was at the very beginning when no other human beings were yet living.
