What are the different types of angels?

DESCRIBING the vision he had involving God's angelic family, the prophet Daniel wrote: "There were a thousand thousands [angels] that kept ministering to [God], and ten thousand times ten thousand that kept standing right before him." (Daniel 7:10) This verse reveals God's purpose in creating angels. They are to minister to him and stand ready to carry out his instructions.

God uses angels as he directs his servants in the preaching of the good news of the Kingdom of God. (Revelation 14:6, 7) This direction benefits both those who preach and those who hear the good news.—Acts 8:26, 27.

Angels help to keep the Christian congregation free of contamination by wicked people.—Matthew 13:49.

Angels guide and protect those who are faithful to God.—Psalm 34:7; 91:10, 11; Hebrews 1:7, 14.

Soon, the angels will bring relief to humanity by fighting alongside Jesus Christ to eliminate wickedness.—2 Thessalonians 1:6-8.

ARCHANGEL

The prefix" arch," meaning "chief" or "principal," implies that there is only one archangel, the chief angel; in the Scriptures, "archangel" is never found in the plural.

Ranking very high among the angels in privileges and honour are the seraphs. Isa 6:2, 6; - Spirit creatures stationed about Jehovah's throne in the heavens. Read Isa 6:1-7. for a description:

Cherubs, too, have a high rank and care for special responsibilities that are intimately associated with the Almighty's glorious personage. They are often shown to be in attendance upon him.—Genesis 3:24; Ezekiel 9:3; 11:22.

Angels:

The myriads of other angelic messengers serve as the Most High's agents and deputies in carrying out the divine will.—Hebrews 1:7, 14.

From the Hebrew mal·ʼakhʹ and the Greek agʹge·los: Both words literally mean "messenger" but are rendered "angel" when referring to spirit messengers. (Ge 16:7; 32:3; Jas 2:25; Re 22:8) Angels are powerful spirit creatures, created by God long before the creation of humanity. They are also referred to in the Bible as "holy myriads," “sons of God," and "morning stars." (De 33:2; Job 1:6; 38:7) They were not made with the ability to reproduce their own kind but were created individually. They number well over a hundred million. (Da 7:10) The Bible indicates that they have personal names and distinct personalities, yet they humbly refuse to receive worship, and most even avoid disclosing their names. (Ge 32:29; Lu 1:26; Re 22:8, 9) They have different ranks and are assigned a variety of roles, including serving before Jehovah's throne, conveying his messages, intervening on behalf of Jehovah's earthly servants, executing God's judgments, and supporting the preaching of the good news. (2Ki 19:35; Ps 34:7; Lu 1:30, 31; Re 5:11; 14:6)

They convey divine messages and perform other important tasks. For example, the Scriptures refer to the Law given through the prophet Moses as "the word spoken through angels." God's angels also help his servants on earth. In fact, the Scriptures call God's angels "spirits for public service, sent forth to minister for those who are going to inherit salvation."—Hebrews 1:14; 2:2.
