Psalm 103:1-2, "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

To bless an omnipotent and omnipresent God, is to show honour, reference, and worship to him in every way humanly possible. Hebrews 4:12, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work".

God is all-powerful, and God's power is infinite, or limitless. God is Omniscience and all-knowing, in the sense that he is aware of the past, present, and future. God is omnipresent and He is every where at the same time, and have knowledge of the present and the past.

Blessing the Lord is a commitment expected of faithful believers and Christians, which helps in expressing our appreciation to God, for His kindness to humanity. Blessing is an act of adoration giving to something of great and immortal value, and it can be define, as the infusion of something with holiness, spiritual redemption, divine will etc. Therefore to be blessed means “to be favoured.

Deut. 28: 1-2, “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all His commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all those blessings if you obey the Lord your God.

When God blesses us, it is the expression or outworking of his “good, pleasing and perfect” will toward us. When we bless God it is the expression or outworking of our obedience to God’s good, pleasing and perfect will. When we bless God it gives him joy and pleasure.

So how do we bless God. Here are some suggestions.
1. Make him the #1 priority in our lives all the time
2. Develop an intimate personal relationship with him
3. Read and study the bible every day and apply its truth and guidance to our lives
4. Have daily conversations with God in prayer to adore God for who he is, thank God for what he has done, confess our sins, and ask God to meet our needs and the needs of those we care about
5. Share the good news of the gospel at every opportunity
6. Advance the cause of God’s kingdom and take our stand against evil
7. Fight against all forms of injustice
8. Obey God’s commands to live a righteous and holy life in a crooked and depraved world
9. Take care of the needy in our world: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
10) Live by faith and walk with the Holy Spirit

All of these things (and many others) bring great joy to our Heavenly Father and are a treasured blessing to him.

What does it mean to bless God?

To "bless God" means to praise, honour, and express deep gratitude to Him. While God blesses humans by providing grace and favour, humans bless God by acknowledging His majesty, thanking Him for His benefits, and offering Him worship.

The concept of blessing God is prominent in the Bible and can be broken down into a few key actions:

Speaking Well of God: The original Hebrew word barak means to kneel or bow, while the Greek word eulogeo means "to speak well of". Blessing God involves verbally expressing His goodness and declaring His wonderfulness.

Offering Thanksgiving: It is a way of gratefully remembering and acknowledging all of God's gifts and acts of mercy (e.g., Psalm 103:2

A Lifestyle of Worship: Blessing God isn't just a vocal shout of praise; it's an attitude of the heart and a lifestyle that honours His character in all circumstances.

Because God is perfect and self-sufficient, our blessings do not add to His greatness; rather, they serve as the appropriate response of a grateful heart to the Creator.

Psalm 16:7 says ESV: "I will bless Jehovah, who hath given me counsel; Yea, my heart instructeth me in the night seasons."

David allowed divine counsel to settle into the deepest parts of his being, to mold his innermost thoughts and feelings, even when the counsel was strong. What a fine example of humility and submissiveness David set for us!

Psalm 103 is a joyful, sweeping hymn of thanksgiving that focuses on God's boundless love, compassion, and forgiveness. This Psalm is attributed to King David, and it serves as a powerful reminder to praise God by actively remembering the spiritual and physical "benefits" He provides.

Psalm 34:1 ESV: "I will bless Jehovah at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth."

Like David, we feel impelled to praise Jehovah constantly because of his incomparable works.

How do God's works compare with those of men who are idolised by the world? The answer - NONE: Psalm 86:8. ESV: "There is none like unto thee among the gods, O Lord; Neither are there any works like unto thy works"

It is an act of praise, not imparting power. When we bless God, we are not giving Him a blessing as if He lacks something (like when God blesses us with health or provision). God is infinitely perfect and lacks nothing. Instead, we are recognizing and declaring His goodness, glory, and grace. It is an act of worship from the creature to the Creator.

It includes remembering His benefits (Psalm 103:1-2). David commands his own soul: "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits." To bless God is to actively remember and list His specific mercies: forgiveness of sins, healing, redemption, love, and compassion. This conscious gratitude is the essence of blessing God.

It is verbal and heartfelt (Psalm 145:1-2). "I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you." Blessing God involves speaking out loud (or in your heart) words of exaltation, thanksgiving, and adoration. It is an intentional, daily practice of acknowledging His majesty.

A song based on Psalm 145:1-2 NKJV is this:

# I Will Extol You (Psalm 145:1-2 – NKJV)

## Lyrics

I will extol You, my God, O King
I will extol You, my God, O King
And I will bless Your name forever
And I will bless Your name forever
And ever
I will extol You, my God, O King
I will extol You, my God, O King
And I will bless Your name forever
And I will bless Your name forever and ever
Every day I will bless You
Every day I will bless You
I will praise Your name forever and ever
Every day I will bless You
Every day I will bless You
